Thursday Fishbowl Prep: May 7, 2020

Focus: How do we prepare for a thoughtful discussion on Chapter 8 of The Great Gatsby?

1. Optional: Warming up with some optional vocabulary fun!
  • Having trouble understanding what Fitzgerald is talking about? No problem! Let's get you a 1920s vocabulary, old sport.
  • Practice the vocabulary lists for Gatsby, and I will happily give you credit in Infinite Campus! Plus, you'll have an easier time understanding The Great Gatsby!
2. Required: Reading and journalling on The Great Gatsby, Chapter 8; there's still much to come!
  • Sam, Ethan, Pablo, and Abbie: Please prepare a Chapter 8 syllabus by Friday.
  • Everyone: Make sure you post your Chapter 8 journal before class on Friday.
  • Join us Friday at 2:30 for a live discussion of Chapter 8.

Weekly Tasks To Accomplish by Friday:

REQUIRED:
  • Read Chapter 8 of The Great Gatsby.
  • Post to your blog your journal on Chapter 8.
  • Join our live discussion at 2:30 (click here if you need the updated Fishbowl Sign-up).
  • All make-up / revised coursework due by Wednesday, May 22.
OPTIONAL:
  • Watch the screencasts on Grammar #9 and/or Grammar #10.
  • Take the grammar quizzes.
  • Try out the quarantine creative writings / mental health exercises posted on Tuesdays.
  • Complete the 5-minute Wednesday Creative Write.
  • Practice the Gatsby vocabulary words on Quizlet.

  1. I think the pool may represent Gatsby's wealth and how far he has come but the pool was only for show at his parties. Since Daisy never came to his parties I think his death in the pool maybe symbolizing the inability to have Daisy since she didn't call.
