  1. On Page 32 Grandmother says "Please marry me"
To me the reading voice I get is desperation, why do you think she wants to marry Thomas so quickly?

    1. The grandmother mentions that she felt "needed" when Thomas was around her and I think that was important to her. She obviously struggles mentally, she was thinking about jumping off a bridge, so she enjoyed the attention and love that Thomas gave her.

    2. This is Delaney

    3. I think she has gone through the same or close to the same experiences as Thomas so she can relate. Thomas might also have been the only person she can relate to and she is desperate for someone to relate with.

      Delete
    4. She is probably really insecure about something and she realized that Thomas doesn't care about that insecurity at all so she wants him to be the person for her because she feels like he's the only one immediately.

  2. Why do you think the book is called Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close?

  3. I think the plot isn't really quite built yet, we are introduced to 3 story's but we haven't really read the script yet you know?

  4. Why do you think Oskar hid his father's messages? Why doesn't he want his mom to hear them?

    1. I think he is scared that it would hurt his Mom and he wants to protect her, but I think it would help her or make her happy hearing him for the first time.

  6. Why do you think Oskar doesn't like Ron, does Oskar thinks his Mom wants to replace his father?

    1. I was think maybe the mom was having an affair with Ron.

      Delete
    2. I don't think Oskar likes Ron because he still really misses his father and he doesn't want Ron to replace his father as a new fatherly figure, because it won't ever be the same.

      Delete
    3. But we haven't seen any interactions between Ron and Oskar.

    4. Oskar does believes his mom is trying to replace his dad you can tell this by the quote on page 3 "you're not my dad and you never will be"

  7. Why isn't the grandfather a figure in Oskars life/What happened with the Grandfather?

    1. The grandfather left Oskar. He doesn't want to be a part of his life.

  8. On Pg 36, Oskar watches his mom and Ron playing board games and he narrates, "She wasn't missing Dad." Why does he think that?

    1. I guess that Oskar thinks his Mom tries to replace his dad.

      Delete
    2. I think Oskar says that she wasn't missing dad because he feels like his mom should be more upset and connected to Oskars fathers death

      Delete
    3. I'm thinking that the mom was having an affair with Ron before the dad died, that's why she got over his death so quickly in the first place.

    4. the first reply is from joanna

    5. The last replie is from Delaney

      Delete
    6. I think he thinks that because his mom doesn't spent a lot time with him after his dad passed away. The mom doesn't have a strong connection or bond to the family.

      Delete
    7. I think he thinks his mom is spending to much time getting over her husbands death instead of mourning him and remembering him.

      Delete
    8. His mom is spending more time having fun and playing board games with Ron than she has been grieving over her husbands death which is making Oskar angry.

  9. What is the purpose of the letter on pages 75-76? How does it move the story?

    1. I think he see's it as another riddle

      Delete
    2. I agree that I think he see's it as another riddle, and Oskar doesn't have closure. He will most likely never know what exactly happened to his father.

      Delete
    3. Just like a normal person would think, he may think that since there is no evidence of his dads death, that maybe he is still alive. And he has not come to terms with the facts.

      Delete
  11. It seems like the Grandma is just as with the letter as Oskar is with finding what his dad left him. Why do you think that is?

    ReplyDelete
  12. What was that key used for that oskar found in his dads closet

    ReplyDelete
  13. What in the story relates to this books title?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Why does Oskar on wheare white? Why does have so much trust in people that he doesn't know very well? Is the grandfather dead? Did they just tell him that he left so that Oskar wouldn't have to deal with another death? Why doesn't Oskar live with his Grandmother if they live so close and he likes her much more?

    1. I think Oskar always sees the good in the people and doesn't think anybody is bad.

      Delete
    2. I think Oskar wear white symbolize naive or innocent. It kind of shows how Oskar lives in a wonder world where there are no violence.

      Delete
    3. I think oscar has an ablility to see through people and see their real intentions and that decides weather he will put trust in them or not.

  15. Maybe the Grandmother got sick of the Grandfather because of him becoming mut, maybe the grandfather didn't leave.

  16. Why do you think the Dad wrote Black in a red colored pen? What do you think is black?

  17. There are a lot of "Unknown" authors here--bloggers, please identify yourselves. :)

  18. Is Oskar's innocence with trusting stranger going to change throughout the book? Will it get him into a bad situation?

  19. After being asked why Oskar is so obsessed with the falling man photo, I started to think deeply into my explanation. When watching the clips in class yesterday Ms.Leclaire talked about how so many people find comfort thinking that it was someone they knew and their final moments. And something clicked in my brain after hearing that. Oskar is obsessed with the photo because he thinks it's his dad. He finds comfort thinking that the last moments in his life were peaceful, relaxing, the sense of flying. In such a terrible scenario which no one could have predicted. Oskar could also find comfort in the photo because there wasn't any body to bury at the funeral. "And anyway, it's not like we were actually burying him, anyway." (Foer 4) And that's why he finds comfort in the falling man photo.
