  1. The car crash was foreshadowed when the 4 of them were in town during the argument, it says that Gatsby had a look to him as if he had just killed a person.

  2. The glass breaking and like kind of the entire story or Gatsbys plan falling to pieces

  3. I think that the clip of the eyes is symbolic in that they eyes were watching so they woulnt get away with what they did.

  4. maybe the car crash was symbolism for everything falling apart for everyone

  5. I think this is symbolizing Tom loosing multiple things he cares about, Mrytle, and he's starting to loose Daisy

  6. To me Gatsby steering the wheel symbolizes his want for Daisy. He's trying to solve her problems in hopes that she'll love him.

  7. As Myrtle crashes down you can see the eyes on the billboard, earlier in that scene Myrtle's husband says to her "God can see everything." I think the eyes of the doctor in this scene maybe symbolize a god like figure watching over New York like a seeing eye.

  8. In the movie there is a lot of flashing between the story and the Billboard with glasses. It seems to me that the point of Tom telling them to leave to show Myrtle's husband who she was cheating with or to create an idea in myrtle's head that there is no way of escaping

  9. The billboard with the Doctor's eyes kept coming into view. I think the eyes are watching over the valley of ashes and what goes on there. I think the eyes symbolize the fact that there is always someone watching because they saw exactly what happened, even if Gatsby and Daisy change the story later.

  10. I think the eyes were foreshadowing something bad throughout the whole book. They always represented someone seeing something bad.

    1. I agree that they are a symbol of bad luck because it allows there to be a sort of idea that there's a system of checks and balances. i also think that it symbolizes that no one can get away with anything because there is always eyes watching.

    2. i also agree that the eyes were foreshadowing the bad throughout the whole book because ever time we hear about the eyes it's always when sometime sin like is happening.

  11. Myrtle is the victim because in the first place she was the obstacle between Daisy and Tom. Once this obstacle is gone, it'll be hard for Daisy to decide which man she will stay with.

  12. Do you think Wilson, Myrtle's husband, knew that she was having an affair? Is that why they were moving west?

    1. Yes, Wilson knew but he didn't know it was Tom. I think he wanted to move west to prevent her from continuing the affair.

  13. On page 132 Nick realizes that Daisy wasn’t planning on “doing anything at all” to end her relationship with Tom. So why is she having an affair with Gatsby? Do you think she really loves Tom?

    1. She's not really having an affair with Gatsby but she is revisiting her feelings that she buried a long time ago in order to move on. I do feel that she at one point she had feelings for Tom before she got to understand that he was abusive and manipulative.

    2. I think she did truly love Tom at one point, but after all the cheating and abuse she had fallen out of love with him and fallen in love with Gatsby, her first true love.

    3. I agree with Dakota, I think that she is revisiting her feelings but I do believe that Daisy loved Tom at one point maybe early in the relationship not realizing that he is manipulating her. I don't think that Tom knows how to fully love someone since he does have affairs.

    4. I don't think that Daisy love Tom but i think they have deal going on that they will stay together if not for love but for image.

  14. I think maybe the death symbolizes how Tom and Gatsby each had something taken from him that night.

  15. What does white symbolize? "White shirtwaist" (114), "white dresses" (115), and "white palace" (120).

    1. It symbolizes the innocence that is hidden but it can also symbolize how people put on a mask in order to be happy and productive in sociey

    2. I've noticed a lot of the word white being symbolized throughout the book and I believe if could possibly symbolize the calm in each of these hectic situations.

    3. Do you think Daisy represents white?

      Delete
    4. It could be because it is usually being talked about when daisy is around.

    5. White usually symbolizes innocents, I think the author is showing innocents that is being taken away in this chapter with all the truths and violent aspects being revealed.

  16. The way the film makers focused on the Gatsby's hand and ring right before he hit Myrtle symbolizing the fact that an honorable Oxford man would never chose to hit a woman instead of a car.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree but he still hit Myrtle, did Gatsby know that Tom was seeing her and not really taking care of Daisy? Do you think this was really an accident?

      Delete
  17. Since Tom knows what car hit Mrs. Wilson do you think he will tell the cops that Daisy and Gatsby killed her or will he not so he doesn't ruin Daisy's life?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that he will protect her so that way she doesn't believe that Gatsby is a good man. I feel that maybe Tom will go to get revenge. Maybe by killing Gatsby then killing himself so that way he can get away with the murder. I feel that overall Tom has more against Gatsby other than just Daisy maybe a false business deal.

      Delete
    2. I think Tom will tell Mr. Wilson that Gatsby was the one who killed Mrs. Wilson as a way to protect Daisy from Gatsby and the cops. Also, in the book, Gatsby said "but of course I'll say I was" (143). Gatsby is ready for taking the accident.

      Delete
    3. I don't think he will tell the cops. At the end of the chapter when Daisy and Tom are "conspiring" at the table, I think it shows that Tom and Daisy will always come back to each other, no matter how toxic their relationship is, and he will protect Daisy. The most punishment he can give Gatsby is protecting Daisy and proving to her that Gatsby is not a good man.

  18. Do you think that Nick not telling Gatsby that someone did recognize his car will come back to get them?

    1. I think it will but I believe that Gatsby will be able to get out of the situation because of his money.

      Delete
    2. There is always that possibility. i think many of this twisted tales allows the reader to create many different outcomes of the charaters.

  19. I think seeing Daisy's daughter made Gatsby realize that Daisy really did have a separate life from Gatsby's. She moved on she wasn't thinking about a life with Gatsby for the last five years like he was thinking about her.

    1. I agree I think he got hurt by the fact that she had a life a husband and a child while he was trying to make himself seen by her.

      Delete
    2. I feel like Gatsby was also a little upset that he wasn't the father of Daisy's child and that they didn't start a family together. He might think it's too late to start a family with Daisy.

  20. I agree with Ryan. Just like in the previous chapter with the rain, I think the heat symbolized the tension, guilt, and the uncomfortable situation that was chapter 7.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In the book the Car Crash was very fast and only took up about a page, why did you think Fitzgerald made it happen rather fast while the film made it slow

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because when you look back at things rather than live it things seem to be a way different. I also think that the film version used it to tell the difference of perspectives

      Delete
  22. Who do you think is going to die in Chapter 8?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think Gatsby and Mr. Wilson will die because Gatsby will be blamed for the death of Mrs. Wilson. I think Mr. Wilson will die because Mrs. Wilson is dead.
