The green light is a symbol that he uses to follow what he wants most so even if it is a coincidence that daisy's house light is green, Gatsby uses that as motivation to keep grinding and trying towards what he wants most.
ReplyDeleteI think that Gatsby's dream is very possible because he came up into the world from nothing.
ReplyDeleteI think the green light represents preservation and that gatsby is still working twords what he wants
ReplyDeleteThe green light represents his dream for success and luxury as well as Daisy. I think he already got his wealth and success, and him getting Daisy is likely as well. This represents the American Dream as he wants to be successful and happy with Daisy.
ReplyDeleteThe green light for symbolizes Gatsby's past present and future because it is his ambition and his desire to be better than what he grew up with. The green light factors all these things into creating Gatsby himself.
ReplyDeleteThe green light could be a representative of his final goal. And that is to be with Daisy, also a little while ago in the book after he meets with Daisy he says that the green light won't shine anymore, so maybe it the final goal for him.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the scene showing the Green light disappearing could represent how he emotionally got Daisy back maybe not physically yet.
DeleteI think Gatsby is trying to pursue his happiness with wealth but soon realizes that he is lonely, maybe he's trying to win Daisy of with his money. I do not think that this represents the american dream, you can see Gatsby filling a whole left in his life with parties and strangers, I believe the american dream can just simply be represented by loving relationships.
ReplyDeleteI think the green light not only represents Daisy but all of Gatsby's steps on his path to becoming the man he dreams of being. I think Gatsby wants to live the ultimate life full of wealth, and fame, and having everything he could possibly want.
ReplyDeleteThe green light represents Gatsby's want for wealth. Simply put Gatsby wants money. I think it does represent the American Dream in that it symbolizes the want to grow ones wealth.
ReplyDeleteI think Gatsby's dream is over all beaing successful. That includes being wealthy and getting Daisy back. The green light is the symbol he has chosen to represent his dream
ReplyDeleteI think the green light is a dream he's following of having money, Daisy, big parties, etc. This absolutely represents the American Dream, because the American Dream mainly revolves around money.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think Gatsby believes that Daisy didn't have a good time at his party and what does something like that do to a person like Gatsby?
ReplyDeleteDaisy was uncomfortable and it was pretty obvious at the party so I think Gatsby could see that. It probably made Gatsby overthink everything.
DeleteThe green light represents his ambition for getting what he wants, either fame or wealth. I think this dream is possible because through his work, he's able to achieve what he wants. It incentives him to get what he desires the most.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is about getting what he wants, but once he gets what he wants he realizes how empty he really is
DeleteOn page 110 it says, “He talked a lot about the past, and I gathered that he wanted to recover something, some idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy.” What do you think it is that Gatsby wants to recover about himself from his past?
ReplyDeleteI think he wants to recover his relationship with Daisy. He wants to get back in the old time where they are free to do whatever they want without any obstacles.
DeleteI think he wants to get back to how he felt with Dan Cody and how he was teaching him his ways of living a wealthy life.
DeleteI think he doesn't want to recover something about his past but Daisy's so they could have been together
DeleteI think Gatsby is trying to make it up to daisy in some way for what happened in the past so Basically Gatsby is trying to re-make the past because now he is ready to do so.
DeleteBad because its distracting him from him making his money
ReplyDeletei think the green light is symbol of hope
ReplyDeleteI also think Tom doesn't seem right for Daisy.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you say that? Is it because he is un-loyal or because he is abusive? Do you think that Gatsby would be better for Daisy?
DeleteI agree with Ryan, I think that Tom only won Daisy over with gifts with his wealth but clearly you can see that Daisy has never truly been in love with Tom.
DeleteShe only married tom to fill the viod in her heart so she woulndt be alone, I dont think she actually lives him
DeleteI think you are right and that tom doesn't seem right for daisy because he has a mistress and seems to scream a lot but he also has everything in the world at his feet so when he gets a wake up call I think Tom will be much better.
DeleteWhy do you think Gatsby thinks recreating the past is something everyone can do?
ReplyDeleteI think that people believe that if they try and recreate the "good memories" or the past that everything will be fulfilled and the time lost between the past and them recreating the past wouldn't be for nothing.
DeleteI think this is because if everyone has the heart to do something, they can certaining recreate or makeup for something they have done in the past. For Gatsby, he has the power and the ability to continue on what he had in the past.
DeleteOn page 102 Gatsby said "I know your wife," continued Gatsby, almost aggressively." Why did Gatsby emphasize on saying this? What does he want Tom to know?
ReplyDeleteI think Gatsby is trying to say that Tom is not the right person to be a protective figure in Daisy life, and since Gatsby knows her so well he's saying that he should be with her.
DeleteI think Gatsby emphasize "I know your wife" as a way to intimidate Tom, a show of dominance. Also to show Daisy he's willing to fight for her
DeleteI think Gatsby doesnt think that Tom is right for Gatsby and that he could do better.
Deleteso he stuck in the past and cant move on
ReplyDeleteI think that the green light symbolizes the envy Gatsby has to have Daisy back, but also the envy he has for the life old money lives. The life that Dan Cody had.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think Nick was trying to remember at the end of the chapter?
ReplyDeleteTo answer Ms. Leclaire, I think you cant go back in time to redo a relationship the same way.
ReplyDeleteEvery time you try and recreate the past, it feels forced and you can never fully recreate the good memories.
DeleteTrue it just wouldn't be the same
DeleteHow do you guys think Tom will handle the news that Daisy and Gatsby are in love? Mrs. Leclaire said 3 people die soon and do you think one if not both of them will die?
ReplyDeleteI can see Tom dying because of his aggression maybe getting the best of him. Tom will be angry and maybe even try to kill Gatsby.
DeleteDO you think he will succeed in killing Gatsby or will Gatsby out-best Tom?
DeleteI don't think Tom will care that Gatsby and Daisy are in love because he is in love with Myrtle so he know what it's like.
Deletei think that atleast gastby will die
DeleteI think this will be a wake up call to Tom that if he wants to keep Daisy in his life he will need to stop fooling around because he now will understand that feeling because Daisy is now having an affair aswell.
Delete"Daisy began to sing with the music in a husky, rhythmic whisper, bringing out a meaning in each word that it had never had before and would never have again" (108). Why do you think Daisy sings?
ReplyDelete"Daisy and Tom weren't happy, and neither of them had touched the chicken or the ale- and yet they weren't unhappy either." What do you think this quote means?
ReplyDeleteDo you think anyone can recreated the past?
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't think you can because like Ms. Leclaire said, people change drastically, especially in 5 years and things can't be recreated after a period of time like that.
DeleteDo you think Tom and Gatsby will have a confrontation?
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the book do you think gatsby will die?
ReplyDeleteWill the green light symbolize anything other in the book further on?
ReplyDeleteHow did gatsby at such a young age come up with a fake persona of himself?
ReplyDeleteI think Gatsby saw his future and felt that nothing will be able to stop him if he was going to try hard enough to make it to his goals
