I think the meaning of rain in this scene is Gatsby's nervousness because the rain stopped when Gatsby gets the courage back.
ReplyDeleteI think this shows his scared side. Throughout the book he is built up to be this charming and amazing man, but you never see his scared side.
ReplyDeleteI think the rain symbolized the tension between Gatsby and Daisy right when they met. After they start connecting again, it stops raining.
ReplyDeleteI think the rain represents a "rebirth" of Gatsby's and Daisy's love for eachother
ReplyDeleteI think the rain is being used to "grow" Daisy's and Gatsby's relationship
ReplyDeleteI think the rain in this scene is representing a new beginning, since Gatsby and Daisy havent seen eachother in a long time it can symbolize starting over.
ReplyDeleteI think it symbolizes how when it stopped, it became less of a tense situation, and opened up new possibilities.
ReplyDeleteThe rain symbolizes the dark truth that Nick hold that he wishes that he didnt. It can also symbolize the shift in Gatsby's Character
ReplyDeleteI think the symbolic function of rain in this scene is to show Gatsby's stress when meeting Daisy.
ReplyDelete"He hadn't once ceased looking at Daisy, and I think he revalued everything in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well-loved eyes."
ReplyDeleteDoes this Foreshadow that maybe Gatsby had done everything for Daisy?
I think this quote more represents how much Gatsby loved Daisy before he went to war and how his love for her never left.
DeleteI think the rain symbolizes stress
ReplyDeleteI think it symbolizes his fear before talking to Daisy and the tension of the situation.
ReplyDeleteI agree since the rain stopped after Nick came back and you could see Gatsby and Daisy getting more comfortable again and sitting closer to each other so the "fear"/ rain left.
DeleteI think rain symbolize a new start or a new beginning. In the movie "The Shawshank Redemption", after Andy get out the prison, he started a new a life. Also in "Gatsby", it creates a new beginning between Gatsby and Daisy.
ReplyDeleteJust like in Chapter 2 with Tom and Myrtle, Nick is forced to stay and third-wheel with Gatsby and Daisy. Why do you think this is?
ReplyDeleteI think Gatsby is scared to be alone with Daisy because he is afraid of making a second "first" impression so having Nick there makes it less uncomfortable.
DeleteI agree with what sam said because getting a ton of flowers would be weird if you didn't love someone.
ReplyDeleteI think it symbolizes the tension of the long awaited reunion between Daisy and Gatsby.
ReplyDeleteTo respond to Dakotan I think Gatsby did this so it would seem like Gatsby didn't know that they were going to meet.
ReplyDeleteI agree you can see he was questioning his decision to meet up with her probably because he was nervous, I think Gatsby might have thought it would have been more of an awkward situation if he was just standing and waiting there for her.
DeleteOn page 96, it says, “No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.” Do you think Gatsby has made Daisy out to be too perfect in the last 5 years that now she is disappointing him? Does this make Gatsby more in love with the idea of love than with real-life Daisy?
ReplyDeleteI think Gatsby has very high expectations for daisy but I think that he is still happy with daisy in real life
DeleteI agree with sam because I think Gatsby wanted the lawn to look good for daisy
ReplyDeleteI think Nick wanted the money but didn't want to get caught up with the criminal life.
ReplyDeletei think that nick is content with how much he's making. His living conditions arn't bad at all but if you compare his wealth with his rich neighbors he seems poor
DeleteI think Nick didn't have time to process the offer and was still thinking about Gatsby and Daisy's relationship.
DeleteI think Nick turned down Gatsby's business deal because I think Nick suspected it had something to do with something illegal, and even though Nick is tempted by money, he doesn't want to get involved with that.
ReplyDeletei also think nick wants to focus on his job and try to make it in trading stocks
DeleteI think that in Gatsby's mind, the perfect Daisy would want him too. But, in real life, she doesn't nessessarily want him back. Maybe that's why he is a ittle dissapointed.
ReplyDeletereplying to Mia
DeleteWhy do you think Nick is being brought into awkward situations throughout what we have read in the book.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ms. Leclaire that Nick has a lot of integrity and the other characters feel better with him around. Also, I think Nick is awkward because he lives such a different life compared to the other characters, so he doesn't really know how to act around them.
DeleteI liked Ethans question and i wonder the same thing. I think Tom will definitely become a bigger role.
ReplyDeleteI think Tom will find out about Gatsby and Daisy.
ReplyDeleteI believe the rain is symbolic of Gatsby's nervousness when interacting with Daisy. Once he begins to loosen up and enjoy Daisys company, the rain ends and then the fun between them begins.
ReplyDeleteDo you think Gatsby will convince Nick to accept the business offer? I personally think that Gatsby will continue asking Nick or somehow Nick will get roped into an illegal business.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Gatsby like Nick so much? How is there relationship going to effect Nick in the long run?
ReplyDeleteIs Gatsby a lonely person and is that one of the reasons he wants Daisy so bad? I think he is very lonely in his huge house with no one around and he needs someone to fill the void.
