DeleteWhy do you think Mr. Gatsby showed a wave of embarrassment when he ran into Tom, and then ended up leaving?
ReplyDeleteGatsby was embarrassed because Tom is Daisy's wife and he is obsessed with Daisy.
DeleteTo respond to Dakota, I think the medal is real because of who Gatsby is. Gatsby doesn't use anything fake to impress anyone.
DeleteOn page 72, Mr. Wolfshiem tells Nick, “Gatsby’s very careful about women. He would never so much as look at a friend’s wife.” Why is this ironic? Do you think many other people know about Gatsby’s obsession with Daisy?
ReplyDeleteThis is Ironic because Gatsby clearly has something for tom's wife even though suposedly he'd never look at a friends wife.
DeleteThis is ironic because although he is a man who respects other people's relationships, he still is going after daisy even though she is married.

ReplyDeleteI think that maybe he wants Nick to like him becasue Nick is Daisy's cousin.
DeleteI think it is because he knows about the rumors about him and how people don't believe the true ones, so I think he just wanted to clear the air and show Nick what was true about him.
DeleteI think that everything Gatsby says is true. I think he wants to share these things with Nick not because he wants to build a connection and make a friend, but instead so he can ask Nick for a favor of inviting him over to tea with Daisy. If Nick knows Gatsby's past he would feel better about letting him meet Daisy.

DeleteI agree with Abbie. At first I think Gatsby was trying to use Nick to get him closer to Daisy. Overtime, Gatsby starts to see Nick as a real friend because he doesn't have a close friend.
DeleteThroughout the chapter, the word white is used a lot. On page 68, Gatsby hold up a white card to the police officer. On page 74 Jordan talks about Daisy's past and how she was in a white dress in a white car. What do you think the significance of the color white represents in this book?
ReplyDeleteI think the color white shows purity and class. It shows the power of the wealthy people. It also represent a sense of innocence.

I think that Gatsby in away wants to ashow daisy that he is successful.
DeleteI think the list of wealthy people's names is another way Gatsby's trying to get Daisy's attention. When we learned about Fitzgerald's life, it was said that the book was really similar to his life, where the girl didn't want Fitzgerald because he didn't have enough money. If "Daisy" is the same way, then there's a chance she might come to one of his parties, if she hears that all these rich and famous people are at Gatsby's parties.

ReplyDeleteAfter first impressions of Mr. Wolfsheim seems to be an important character in Gatsby's life. What do you think will happen to him throughout the book and who is the man he had mistaken Nick for?
ReplyDeleteI'm still not sure what to think of the teeth, but I don't think the medal was real. Fitzgerald got drafted, and since this is like a subtle autobiography, I think Gatsby got drafted. In that time, boys got drafted really young, which wouldn't have given him the time to go to Oxford. I think the medal is fake, but he's trying to spread the rumor that it is, in hopes of Daisy hearing about it.
